Soy Candle Burning Tips
Paradise Candles of Hawaii wants you to enjoy and receive the longest life out of each of our candles. Correctly burning your candles will also help you get the most fragrance throw. Most people think all you have to do to properly burn a candle is to light it, but there is an art to burning a candle properly.
The following are a few soy candle-burning tips:
- When burning your soy candle for the first time, it is important to allow the candle to burn for 2 1/2 - 3 hours until the wax melts completely and evenly across the entire container. Soy wax has a "memory”. A full melt pool on the first burn will ensure an even burn in subsequent burns and helps to avoid the candle from "tunneling" down the center of the container which may cause you not to get the best scent throw. Please note that having some wax on the side of the container does not affect the quality of the candle. The amount may vary per fragrance and burning conditions.
- To prevent the candle from producing black soot, always trim your wick to 1/4" before lighting your candle. Always burn your candle on a level, heat resistant surface. If the wick begins to have a large flame, flickers repeatedly, or if the wick becomes larger than 1/4” extinguish the flame and let cool for 1 – 2 hours, trim wick and re-light. Always keep the wick centered, this is best done after the candle has been extinguished and the wax is still soft.
- If for some reason you cannot smell the scent of the candle you are burning, leave the room for at least 10 minutes and allow your olfactory sense (your built-in sense mechanism that allows you to smell aromas) to adjust. Many times you will find the olfactory sense becomes accustomed the surrounding aromas and blocks out scents that are in your immediate area. When returning after 10 minutes, you should be able to smell the fragrance.
- Although Paradise Candles of Hawaii candles are very fragrant, sometimes the homes we live in have very large open spaces that combine many rooms. Some of our fragrances are bolder and will scent large areas, while others are lighter and have been designed to achieve a soothing ambiance. Our recommendation for those with large living spaces is to have an additional Paradise Candles of Hawaii candle to achieve maximum scent throw.
- After the candle is burned down, you can wipe the container clean with a paper towel. Our soy wax is bio-degradable and cleans up easily with hot soapy water.
